49th anniversary of Hurricane Camille ceremony tomorrow
Tomorrow the Mississippi Gulf Coast will remember Hurricane Camille.
Hurricane Camille rocked South Mississippi on August 17th, 1969. One hundred and 43 people on the Gulf Coast were killed including three unidentified women.
Tomorrow, the Harrison County Emergency Management Agency will hold the 49th remembrance ceremony in honor of those three lost souls. The ceremony will be held at 8:30 a.m. at the Evergreen Cemetery in Gulfport. Harrison County EMA Director Rupert Lacy said, “The bodies were found throughout the Coast, in Harrison County. At the time, we had nobody who stood up and claimed their remains and that weighed heavy on their minds and they said we needed to do something proper. It was a year later that they had the funeral.”
The public is welcome to attend the remembrance ceremony Friday morning at 8:30.
