39th annual Salute to the Military
Tonight marks the 39th annual Salute to the Military banquet at the Coast Coliseum.
The annual salute continues a tradition of bringing the nation’s top military leaders to the Coast to join in tribute to our local neighbors in uniform. The event kicked off with a cocktail party at six followed by a dinner at 7. Major General David G. Bellon of the U.S. Marines was this year’s featured speaker.
One of the co-chairmen for this year’s event tells News 25 the importance of this long tradition. Salute to the Military Co-Chair Bob Coniglione said, “The folks of the Gulf Coast have been celebrating the salute to our military and military families in the area since the Vietnam War, formally celebrating it. That’s something that a lot of people can’t say in this country. We love it. They are our friends and our neighbors and we want keep it going. This is a great venue and a great way to do it.”
This year’s program included video tributes on the 75th anniversary of the Seabees and the 100th anniversary of Camp Shelby.
