377.4-pound bull shark caught at the Mississippi Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo

It’s day two of the 73rd annual Mississippi Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo.

There’s plenty to do including carnival rides, food, games, live music, and a fishing competition.

The biggest prize of the event is a $20,000 jackpot which goes to the fisherman who catches the largest state record-breaking bull shark. On Thursday evening, David Rogers, a fisherman from Mobile, reeled in a 377-pound bull shark.

So far, it’s the largest of the competition and if no larger sharks are caught, the angler will be taking home the $20,000 and will break the state record. “We actually have the current bull shark record now with one of my teammates and I think this one will beat it by 25 or 30 pounds.”

The scales for the bull shark competition close on Sunday, July 4th.
