Today, the Ocean Springs School District received their new Mississippi Connects devices to aid in learning outside of school.
The Mississippi Legislature allocated $200 million through two laws for Mississippi Connects so school districts could purchase computer devices.
Although the Ocean Springs School District was the first to receive the devices on the Coast, every district will soon have them for all students.
Since the arrival, students, teachers, and parents will be trained to use these Google Chromebooks.
The computers will be given to every student K through 12 in the school district and all textbooks will be online. OSSD Superintendent Dr. Bonita Coleman said, “So much is actually on technology, it’s an innovative part of their life. Also, just in terms of training our students for when they go into college or even if they go into the business world, technology will not leave us and so teaching our students how to be good digital citizens is really important and the earlier we do that the better.”
Mississippi is one of the first states to receive the devices, but the goal is for all states to have these for their students.
