BILOXI, Miss. (WXXV) — Biloxi’s Premiere LUX Cinema is reopening August 28 after five months of being closed, and staff is thrilled to be showing brand new movies again just released from Hollywood studios, the first new movies to hit U.S. screens since March.

The almost-new Premiere Cinema became an instant favorite when it opened less than two years ago with the area’s only laser projection systems, powered recliner-style seating, and a full-service in-lobby Pizza Pub.

Cinemas closed mid-spring due to coronavirus and Hollywood studios temporarily pulled movies off the release calendars, pushing them back later in the year for cinemas to show once they reopened.

“We’re so honored to welcome back our customers,” said facility Director John Sampson. “I’m just excited to have some real theatre popcorn again! So many people have stopped by asking when we’re reopening, I think everyone is tired of being cooped up and just ready to get back to all the fun stuff in life we enjoyed before.”

Premiere is opening with “Unhinged” starting Russell Crowe, “The New Mutants”, “Bill & Ted Face the Music”, “Trolls” and others. A few highly-anticipated upcoming movies also include “Tenet” on September 3, “Wonder Woman 1984” on October 2, with “Black Widow” and “No Time To Die” opening in November.

Guests will notice a few changes when attending to assure the safest-possible environment per guidelines issued by government and health authorities. Enhanced frequent sanitization procedures are ongoing in theatres, concession and common areas and 6’ social distancing between parties is in effect.

Attendance is limited to 50% capacity allowing guests to spread out and enjoy the movie more privately from the comfort of their reserved recliner chair. The concession stand is open serving movie-favorites while the bar and cafe will reopen in a later phase.

The staff is temperature-screened daily before every shift and hand sanitizers have been installed for guest convenience. Face coverings are required for staff and guests but can be removed for eating and drinking, similar to restaurant policy.
