Part of HWY 90 will be closed near the Biloxi City Cemetery as experts are moving forward to remove skeletal remains that were discovered in 2018 during construction for a water line.
The right-hand, westbound lane will be closed from Wednesday at 8 a.m. until Friday at 5 p.m.
After structural work to install a 16 inch water line of HWY 90 was stopped because crews discovered skeletal remains near the cemetery that has gravesites dating back to the 1700s.
Now, after state and federal checks with a host of Native American leaders, work at the site is ready to move forward.
Archaeologists and anthropologists will begin sifting through the area and remains will be placed in containment boxes and transported to the USM Anthropology Laboratory in Hattiesburg.
