The other 6A Quarterfinal game at the Coliseum is also a rematch.
Right before Gulfport-Biloxi, Harrison Central will be throwing on the gloves for round two against Petal who beat the Red Rebels by four all the way back before Thanksgiving.
Since that time, Harrison Central has only lost one game to a team from Mississippi and has already avenged its other two 6A losses to Gulfport and Oak Grove.
Just two years removed from their last trip to the Elite 8, the Red Rebels are still 20 years removed from their last state title which can’t change unless they avenge yet another loss to the Panthers. Harrison Central Guard Demarius Coleman said, “He always tells us to keep working because the mission isn’t done yet.”
Harrison Central Forward/Center Carlous Williams said, “They have one saying that we’ve had since the beginning of the year, expect to win it all. So we’ve just been trying to stick to that.”
Harrison Central Guard Mikel King said, “Gulfport game, when they beat us that third time I want to say, the second or third, it really turned us around because the feeling of losing, it ain’t a good feeling.”
Harrison Central Head Basketball Coach Boo Hardy said, “Basically we’re telling our guys, just don’t worry about the state championship. We’ve got to take care of Petal first and then we’ll take care of everything else once it comes. But right now, we’re just focusing on Petal.”
The Red Rebels and Panthers will tip things off from the Coast Coliseum at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
And the Harrison Central boys not the only Red Rebels still alive, Red Rebelettes taking on a one-loss Pearl team right before the guys play at 5:30 from the Coliseum.
Other Coast teams still alive and playing tomorrow night are the 4A Moss Point girls against McComb at 7 p.m. and then 2A St. Patrick taking on Philadelphia at 8:30 at PRCC.
