The Salvation Army in Gulfport is lending a helping hand to those in need as temperatures dip below freezing.
The cold weather shelter located on 22nd Street and open to everyone with a valid picture ID. The shelter opened at 4 this afternoon and is accepting guests while space is available.
Social Services Program Coordinator Stacy Crandle says it is important to provide a safe, warm place to those in need. “We live in the South and we’re not use to having really cold weather and when it does get cold it’s great to have places like the Salvation Army that will open up and have a warm environment to get them out of the elements, provide them a nice hot meal, and just some fun and laughter, you know, human interaction.”
