After a vote at last night’s city council meeting, the City of Pascagoula now has a date set for their mayoral election.
Citizens of Pascagoula will choose their new leader on February 11th. This seat was made empty by Dane Maxwell. He is now moving into his new role as the Southern District Public Service Commissioner. He was elected in 2016.
News 25 spoke with acting Mayor Steve Burrow and he says that he hopes whoever ends up in the position is ready to work hard for residents. “Certainly for myself, I’d like somebody who brings energy to the job, somebody who is willing to work hard and represent the best interest for the citizens of Pascagoula. I think that the next mayor needs to be like our prior mayors and treat this almost as if it’s a full time job because the demands of the position are substantial.”
Two candidates have thrown their hat in the race even before last night’s announcement. Burt Hill, a retired manager and former city council member, and Dr. Steve Demetropoulos, a local physician and longtime Pascagoula resident.
