The CDC is reporting high levels of flu activity here in Mississippi.
Mississippi is among 11 other states including Alabama seeing a high number of patients with the flu. The CDC estimates that so far this season there have been at least 2.6 million flu illnesses, 23,000 hospitalizations and 1,300 deaths from the flu.
Ginger Smith, the school nurse at Popp’s Ferry Elementary in Biloxi, says teaching your kids basic things can help stop the spread of the flu. “Just to cover your nose and mouth when you cough, just washing hands and keep carrying your hand sanitizer and disinfect your areas.”
It is not too late to get vaccinated. The CDC says flu vaccination is always the best way to prevent the flu and its potentially serious complications.
