Introducing our WXXV Student Athlete of the Week, George County’s Addison Davis!

It’s the final week of the regular season for softball teams across the Mississippi Gulf Coast and we knew sooner or later we’d be featuring one of the best in the circle! Our WXXV Student Athlete of the Week is not only the ace for a prestigious softball team, but makes a big impact in the batter’s box too. Introducing you to George County’s very own, Addison Davis!

Just because a process seems delayed, doesn’t mean it’s behind. George County senior Addison Davis is a prime example of rising to the occasion, even though she didn’t see throwing rise balls in her future. She didn’t just become a pitcher, she became the ace, and one of the best in the entire state, but it definitely didn’t just happen overnight. Having a front row seat to Davis’s growth throughout the years is her father, Edwin Davis, who’s seat most of the time was a bucket of balls being on the receiving end of her pens.

From trying to find the right travel ball team for her and battling through wrist pain on her throwing arm, the process didn’t come easy, but Davis trusted it regardless. That process led her to being a powerhouse on the mound and one of the most consistent pitchers to date. Slinging for varsity all four years of high school, Davis is just 19 punch-outs shy of 400 career strikeouts, 138 of those coming from this senior season alone, that’s still continuing. She also ended both her sophomore and junior seasons under a 1.37 ERA. Being in the circle and setting the tone is a lot on someone’s plate, but Davis’s dad taught her to take it one bite at a time, one pitch at a time.

The recently named Dandy Dozen is known for sitting people down at the plate, but if you’re a pitcher, you wouldn’t want her in your batters box either. Not only did she throw twelve strikeouts on Monday night, but she also hit a grand slam, putting up a four spot for her team in the top of the first. She’d tell you she’s a pitcher only, but most PO’s aren’t batting .389 on the year. Although she jokes about her time at the plate, Davis enjoys having the opportunity to help herself out in the circle.

While accomplishing all of these things, she teaches the next generation how to fall in love with the game, too. While conducting this interview, the little girl Davis gives pitching lessons to pulled up and watched her talk about her journey to get to this point. That right there is what gives her the most joy.

There’s still a whole post season left for the Lady Rebels, who have won two state championships in the past three years, but what Davis has done already is truly special.  We can’t wait to keep seeing her smiley face in the circle when she’s suited up for Copiah-Lincoln Community College next season, where she’ll contribute heavily to their recent World Seriest team. Happy Senior year, Addison, and thank you for letting WXXV Sports brag on you all these years!
