Former Poplarville standout D.J. Travis commits to Louisiana-Monroe


One of the best to ever come through Poplarville is heading to the Division I FBS level.

Today, D.J. Travis made his verbal commitment to the University of Louisiana-Monroe where he’ll have two more years of eligibility after spending the last two seasons of Jones College.

Travis was a part of Poplarville’s 2016 run to the 4A State Championship game as a junior and made a return trip to the South State title game as a senior.

In 2019, Travis had 11 tackles, a sack, a forced fumble, and a pick as a defensive back for the Bobcats.

A native of Pass Christian and a St. Stanislaus alum, Jeff Haeger comes to News 25 from right in our backyard. He most recently spent more than three years working as the sports reporter for WHLT-TV in Hattiesburg, where he provided extensive coverage of his alma mater, The University of Southern Mississippi. At Southern Miss, Jeff was a member of the Honors College and graduated with a B.A. degree in Broadcast Journalism with a minor in Spanish. He also wrote for USM's award-winning school newspaper, The Student Printz, where he won first place for Best Sports Story in 2013.
