It feels like centuries ago that the New Orleans Saints defense was suffocating opposing offenses with their all-around great play. Now, it’s a different story.
The 48 points scored by the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday was the most points given up by New Orleans since last year’s 48-40 week one defeat to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Saints defense has allowed more than 32 points per game over their last three games, a number that ultimately needs to come down as they continue to chase a first-round bye in the NFC playoffs.
New Orleans next challenge is the Indianapolis Colts, whose offense is coming off a 28 point performance against Tampa Bay. Saints Safety Marcus Williams said, “We just got to do our job, that’s what it comes down to, not what they do. It’s all about what we do. If we do our job, we’ll take care of that. We’ve been down before. You just gotta keep our heads up and continue to get better next week, come out strong, come out ready to play and everything will be fine.”
