Lieutenant Joe Don Cunningham has been promoted to Deputy Chief of the Pascagoula Police Department. The hire was recommended by Police Chief Matt Chapman and approved by Acting City Manager Frank Corder.
Cunningham began his career as a Dispatcher at the Pascagoula Police Department in 1986, and has served in the Pascagoula Patrol and Criminal Investigations Divisions since 1998. The new Deputy Chief has also served in the Moss Point Police Department (1987-1996) and the Gulfport Police Department (1996-1998) during his law enforcement career.
“Deputy Chief Cunningham’s tenure with the department has and continues to exceed all expectations,” Chief Chapman said. “Deputy Chief Cunningham possesses impeccable leadership abilities, sound judgment, motivation, and work ethics that have and will continue to be a great asset to our citizens, department and city.”
“I am proud to approve this promotion of new Deputy Chief Cunningham on the recommendation of Chief Chapman,” Acting City Manager Corder said. “Chief Chapman is building a command staff at the Pascagoula Police Department that will continue the tradition of exceptional service and protection of this community. Deputy Chief Cunningham will be a vital part of insuring the department’s budgetary and operational requirements are met for years to come.”
Cunningham will assume his new position effective December 9, 2019.
