High-pressure will continue to dominate the region through the week. As has been mentioned the well above normal temperatures will continue through the week however, today and tomorrow will be a touch cooler than recent and the coolest days in the forecast. This is because of the likelihood of increased cloud cover and maybe even a few storms. Best chance for rain through the rest of the week will be today. Southerly flow both in the low and mid-levels may allow for a band of convection to develop this afternoon across some of the area. It will be another warm day but with highs expected to be a few degrees cooler than yesterday the high heat indices we have been dealing with may take a step back today. That said we will still deal with widespread 100-105 heat index readings with isolated locations possibly approaching 108 degrees.
The rest of the week will be dominated by high-pressure as it builds and becomes centered over the mid-south. This will allow the heat to build back up and likely keep the region dry through the remainder of the work week. There is a lot of uncertainty in the extended. Models had been in good agreement for next weekend with respect to a tropical wave coming across the northern Gulf but now have significantly diverged.
