One fraternity is on the Coast this weekend and took the time today to reach out to local youth.
Members of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity from all across Mississippi and surroundings states are in Gulfport for their annual state convention. One part of the convention is the ‘Fatherhood Initiative,’ an international effort to ensure that young men have positive male role models.
Students at Gulfport Central Middle School had the chance to connect with fraternity members and learn how to handle many of life’s issues along the way. George Patterson with Omega Psi Phi Fraternity said, “Everybody needs a mentor. I don’t care who you are, but having a fatherhood or positive male role model, a father figure, is key to development.”
Around 300 fraternity members are on the Coast for the meeting.
