Many people worry about how they’ll be remembered when they pass away. For Retired Seabee Sam Bass, he wants to be remembered by his peers.
Bass died on July 13th at 88 one of his last wishes was to have Seabees at his funeral. Sam fought in the Korean War and the Vietnam War before retiring in 1979.
He had six daughters and those who knew him best say he was a mentor and a hero. Seabee Base Public Affairs Officer Brian Lamar said, “Our community, our Navy community, our Department of Defense community, on the Coast and here in Gulfport, we are just a big family. We treat each other that way. It is family first and they are part of the family. We want to be there for them.”
A grave-site service with full military honors given by the United States Navy will be held on Friday at 2:30 p.m. at the Biloxi National Cemetery.
