It’s a 23-year tradition that has fishermen from around the world flocking to the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
The Billfish Classic is just days away, but today teams were docking their boats and prepping for the chance to catch some big fish for some big bucks. More than 100 boats are expected for during this year’s tournament.
Billfish Classic Director Bobby Carter says it is an event that he loves to put together to see the fishermen have a good time. “Mississippi is really based on tourism. That’s what we offer here is tourism and one of the things I found out over the years is that fishermen love to gamble and gamblers love to fish.”
The parade of boats kicks off at 11 a.m. Thursday. The events throughout the tournament are free and open to the public.
