Another emotional day on the Coast as the Gulfport Police Department held their annual Police Memorial Ceremony.
During the memorial, officials took time to remember the officers who were killed in the line of duty at the Gulfport Police Department. They also recognized the family members of those who have passed by inviting them to place a rose in honor of their loved ones.
This event was even more emotional in the wake of the recent death of Biloxi Police Officer Robert McKeithen. Gulfport Police Chief Leonard Papania said, “His murder has made this especially personal for all of us. He is one of us on the Coast and it is so close and so contemporary with this service. It just really embodies why we need to be doing this.”
The Gulfport Police Department has been hosting this memorial service since the 80s.
