The manhunt continues for a former Georgia attorney accused of murdering his mother. The murder occurred just hours before the man was set to report to prison.
Richard Merritt was found guilty in January of defrauding more than a dozen clients out of money from settlement checks. After a judge granted Merritt two weeks of freedom to ‘get his affairs in order’ his mother was found dead at the bottom of her basement where Richard Merritt was living.
Merritt had disappeared, along with his mother’s brown Lexus. Authorities believe he was last seen in Cartersville, Georgia before cutting off his house arrest monitor.
His aunt, Gail Stuck, is a Gulfport resident and believes that Merritt could be someone on our Coast. Keep it here on News 25 as we continue with updates.
