The Gulf Coast Veterans Healthcare System held their annual Creative Arts Competition today.
The competition features multiple categories of art, including creative writings, dance, drama, and music. All veterans who are enrolled in the health system were allowed to enter.
Winners of the competition are judged on a larger scale for the chance to be entered into the national competition in Michigan.
Laura Throop with the veteran’s healthcare system tells News 25 that while the friendly competition is good, it’s more a healthy outlet for so many. “It allows the veterans self-expression. They know this is a place they can display their work and for us, it’s just been amazing to see the quality and type of work that these veterans have you know done for us.”
Air Force Veteran Renee Skalij said, “There are a lot of talented veterans out there. I actually spent twenty years in the Air Force so I appreciate the fact that they are allowing the veterans in particular to show and display their artwork.”
