There’s bad timing and then there’s the pre-draft injury to Jeffrey Simmons.
In the midst of preparing to be a first-round pick in the NFL Draft, the Mississippi State defensive lineman is now preparing for surgery.
Simmons confirmed the news in a Twitter post this afternoon, saying he tore his ACL during position drills this weekend in Boca Raton, Florida.
He goes on to say that he’s going to have surgery early next week less than three months out from the NFL Draft.
Simmons was projected as the seventh overall pick in ESPN’s latest mock draft, having dominated SEC offensive lines during his three seasons in Starkville.
Simmons wasn’t invited to the NFL Scouting Combine for pleading no contest to a simple assault charge prior to joining the Bulldogs.
