Short term rentals was one of big topics at the Biloxi City Council meeting.

A public hearing was held regarding Oak Shores Condominiums to change the zoning. This will be discussed at a future city council meeting. The city council has requested to take another look at regulations regarding zoning.

Property owners at an apartment complex at the east end of Southern Avenue were denied the request of short term rentals due to concerns of conditional uses granted in multi-family zones.

Director of Community Development Jerry Creel tells News 25 they just want to make sure everyone is playing by the same rules. “People that are operating short term rentals are not flying under the radar, that they do have the proper licensing, and they are paying the proper taxes. We have hotels paying 12 percent and we want to make sure short term rentals are paying that hotel tax as well.”

Creel tells News 25 the door is still open for the apartment complex to request a zoning change if the planning commission comes up with new acceptable regulations.
