All around the Gulf Coast children were opening their presents with joy yesterday morning and the animals at the Institute for Marine Mammal Studies were no different.
News 25 visited IMMS to see how their Christmas festivities went for the sea creatures. IMMS says they had an out pour of toys that were donated for the animals. They have a tree up with tags that have suggestions and prices for toys which included things such as balls, ropes, and other hard, plastic toys.
IMMS Trainer Lisa Crawford tells News 25 that playtime for these animals is very important. “It just encourages the animal to not get bored with the same toys. We can switch things out. We switch them out from facility to facility and it just really helps improve their lifestyle. They’re very active and toys encourage them to have an active lifestyle which can lead to a healthy lifestyle.”
The ‘Seasons of Giving Tree’ is up in the IMMS gift shop all year around. If you would like to make a donation just pick a tag off the tree to choose your toy.
