On May 16, 2018 at 7:54 a.m., the Gulfport Police Department responded to a report of a injured female in the 14400 block of Deidra Court. The caller advised that a woman was being attacked by two pit bulls. Responding Officers located a 75 year old female (identity withheld pending family notification) deceased in a yard. AMR was called, but the woman had already succumbed to her injuries while on the scene.
Based on this incident, and prior incidents, the owner of the dogs, Emily Craft, voluntarily surrendered the dogs to Gulfport Animal Control Officers. As per protocol, the animals were turned over to the Gulfport Humane Society. The Humane Society works tirelessly to effectively place animals in safe homes. They do so with the safety of the animals and the citizens in mind. Animals with aggressive tendencies can not be adopted out into the public. Animals that can not be adopted are euthanized. The pit bulls in this case have shown by a prior allegation of attacking another dog, and by killing a person, that they are aggressive and can not be adopted to the public. Due to this, they were euthanized.
