2018 Post Legislature Briefing

This morning, the Mississippi Gulf Coast Chamber of Commerce hosted a Post Legislative Briefing at the Golden Nugget.

Senator Joel Carter, Senator Michael Watson, and Representative Manly Baton were on hand to answer questions in regards to the 2018 legislative session.

According to legislators, some of the hot button issues during this year’s session were funding for education, transportation, and of course, the question of what to do with BP oil spill money.

Even though lawmakers did not come to an agreement on any of these issues, Senator Watson tells News 25 the governor is now pushing for a special session to be called. “So what he has been doing now is push on the lieutenant governor and the speaker on the issues that are important. Let’s get an agreement, let’s understand the framework of this, what we are going to do is call a special session. I talked to the governor last week and one of the questions I asked was will you assure me BP is going to be in that call and he said Michael, if we have a special session, BP will be in there. So, I think that is great news for the Coast.”

The Coast Delegation tells News 25 they are working hard to create plans for each issue to present to the governor and lieutenant governor if and when a special session is called.
