The 2018 Gulf Coast Winter Classic is here
Get ready to saddle up! The 20th annual Gulf Coast Winter Classic is here and the Harrison County Fairgrounds will be hosting the event for the next six weeks.
Organizers tell News 25 that somewhere between 800 to 1000 horses are expected to compete in various competitions at the horse show. The show is free to attend for the public.
This event draws in riders and vendors from across the United States, bringing serious dollars to Gulf Coast hotels, restaurants, and businesses while providing a few weeks of great family entertainment. Texas resident Alan Labounty with AJ Design Embroidery said, “We’re a mobile embroidery business and we come out with the horseshow circuit and we follow the different circuits around the country and we have a blast in Mississippi. We love Gulfport. We love the seafood. For us to be able to travel around different parts of the states and be supported in a business, it’s pretty amazing.”
Co-owner and Organizer of the Gulf Coast Winter Classics Janet McCarroll said, “The projected economic impact with full capacity of a thousand, during the six weeks we figure it’s around $42 million to the Coast. The cool thing about this event is it’s not centered in one area, these people go everywhere.”
Admission is free to the public. Organizers recommend attending on Sundays to see the best action and the most competitions.
