2002 football state champions come back to coach at D’Iberville

Back in 2002, D’Iberville High School football team won the 4A High School State Championship. Now, all these years later, three members of that championship team are back together, but this time in a different way.

From bleeding Black and Gold together on game day to donning headsets on those same sidelines 16 years later, it’s coming full circle for this trio of Warrior champions looking to become champions at D’Iberville once again. Coach Josh Ladner said, “We accomplished so much here. We made history. In that process, we formed a great bond. Being able to work together again and share that bond with these kids is really incredible. It’s a huge honor.”

Coach Jason Hockaday said, “I wanna make sure these kids here are getting the same experience that I got here. I had so many positive things happen in my life because of my experiences here at this high school. It’s been a blessing to me and my life and the people around me.”

Coach Carlton Cotten said, “I want to give back to the team and city that I grew up in and help them achieve their goals.”

Just like that state title run solidified a lifetime of brotherhood for Carlton Cotten, Jason Hockaday, and Josh Ladner, they hope to instill the same bond in the next generation of Warriors. “We all attribute a lot of the relationships we formed here in winning the championship because we were playing so hard for each other. We want to instill that in these guys.”

“It’s great for these kids to see how much family oriented you can be and how much better it makes you as a team.”

The last time the Warriors won it all, most of the current players had just been born, but these title holders have their sights set on ending that 16 year state title drought.  “We know how to put a game plan together that can win because we did it, we’ve played it. We’ve been there and we’ve been through it.”
