2% Prepared Food Tax Passes Pascagoula
Those purchasing prepared food in Pascagoula will soon see a two percent tax on their purchases after voters approved a referendum on Tuesday.
Nearly 2,200 voters came out and the tax passed with 61 percent of the vote.
The first election in August failed to get 60 percent of the vote needed to pass, failing by just about 40 votes.
The tax will be used to support city recreation used for softball, baseball, and soccer complexes.
It’s expected to generate between $800,000 and $1.2 million a year.
