2 people rescued after car goes down 35-foot embankment, hits several trees off Highway 49
Two people were rescued Wednesday morning after their car left U.S. 49, went down a 35 foot embankment, and hit several trees.
The single vehicle accident happened at the intersection of U.S. 49 and East Wortham Road at around 4 a.m.
Traffic on U.S. 49, southbound was diverted for almost two hours while fire crews extricated the occupants from the vehicle and the crash site was cleared.
The rescue was conducted by firefighters with Harrison County Fire Rescue and the Combat Readiness Training Center (airport fire), and paramedics with American Medical Response.
The Harrison County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the cause of the accident.
