18-Wheeler Catches Fire, Causes Traffic

One is seriously hurt after a truck’s trailer caught fire on I-10 west in Jackson County. An eighteen wheeler went up in flames, causing authorities to close down westbound lanes on the interstate near Ocean Springs Sunday afternoon. The accident was one of several car crashes resulting in hefty traffic delays on the interstate. Authorities say it’s amazing that no one was severely hurt.

Anthony Cooley tells News 25, “When I got here there was a big old ball of fire, shooting up about 20-25 feet in the air, so I blocked the traffic so nobody could go around it because I was afraid the tanks could explode and the fire department came up and extinguished it out.”

Authorities say it took fire fighters nearly a half hour to put out the flames.
