17-Year-Old’s Body Found After Drowning Near Ship Island

A tragic day on the water this weekend after a 17-year-old Hattiesburg teen drowned in the Mississippi Sound.

It happened early Saturday afternoon after the teenager, Carson Hall, jumped off the boat he was on, landing stomach first in the water, about a quarter of a nautical mile north of the west side of ship island.

When he didn’t come back up, his friends jumped in the water to try to find him, but were unable to do so. The Coast Guard, DMR and other rescuers launched a search for Hall, but did not recover his body until Sunday.

His death has been ruled an accidental drowning. Hall had just graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School in Hattiesburg.
