17-year-old girl in custody after St. Martin High lockdown
A 17-year-old girl is now in custody after today’s lockdown situation at St. Martin High School.
According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, the student is charged with making two separate threats against the school. One was a bomb threat found written on the girl’s bathroom wall. The 17-year-old girl, a tenth grade student, wrote a second threat involving a gun this morning.
The school went into lockdown shortly before 10 a.m. and students went back to class around noon.Jackson County School District Assistant Superintendent Dr. Michael Van Winkle said, “Obviously it was a disgruntled student. It wastes a lot of our time, educational time that we don’t get back. It wastes the time of the sheriff’s department. There’s a lot of waste there. We need to be educating our children and spending our time more productively.”
The teen was taken to the Jackson County Youth Court today.
