14th Annual Fat Tuesday Challenge
It is Mardi Gras and while many people spent the day catching beads and watching floats pass by, others opted to spend the day watching drag races.
Today, the Gulfport Dragway held their 14th annual Fat Tuesday Challenge as a fun, family-friendly alternative to all the parades rolling through the Coast. Dozens of cars, all shapes and sizes, participated in the elimination style races, guessing how long it would take to make it down the quarter mile strip.
Track announcer Monte Caldarelli said, “A lot of people are off, we’re giving people a safer alternative to bring kids out and not have to worry about getting in front of the floats or fighting all the traffic or anything like that and we did it. We have a lot of rainouts but sometimes we do get a beautiful day like today and a lot of people come out for it and they love the family atmosphere.”
The Gulfport Dragway holds regular races every Wednesday night.
