14th annual Coast Observer Covey Awards

The best of the best of South Mississippi filled the Hard Rock Casino tonight for the 14th annual Coast Observer Covey Awards.

All kinds of awards were presented like favorite casino, favorite local band, and best night life. There were 47 total categories.

Organizers treat the Coveys like it’s the Grammys with live music, DJs, decorations, and Coast local presenters. News 25’s very own Andrew Scherer and Taylor Rubach got the chance to present an award.

The ballots run from January 1st to September 30th every year and the top three are invited to the Coveys.

They hold this event on a Tuesday night to give all of these usual weekend workers a night out. Coast Observer Owner Cheli Strumila said, “They work so hard all year round and they don’t really get recognized for all of the hard work and so I started the Coveys back in 2004 as a way to celebrate them and all of their hard work. I am so proud of our Mississippi Gulf Coast. We have so much to offer here from gaming to dining to night life to local music and we all need to be out there and taking advantage and enjoying every moment. ”

If you want to nominate your favorites for next year’s Coveys visit the Mississippi Gulf Coast Observer’s website.
