1,400 Pounds of Food Collected for the Needy

Teaming up for the greater good of the community, that’s what Dollar Tree and the Brenda Williams Food Pantry have been doing for the past few weeks as part of the Feeding America Campaign.
The Dollar Tree at Edgewater Village has been collecting donations from customers at the checkout counters.
Today, they dropped off their donations to the Food Bank at Pentecostals of the Gulf Coast. In total, Dollar Tree collected 1,400 pounds of groceries to help the 200 families the food bank serves every month.
“It makes you feel good to help out like that. I guess our donations freed up a lot of money for them, so they can buy fresh produce for the people instead of just canned vegetables,” said Darin Wilkin, store manager of Dollar Tree.
“This is just awesome. We’re just so thankful for their hard work. Especially one of their cashiers, she just really went overboard collecting,” said Mike Andrews, director of Brenda Williams Food Bank.
This morning the Brenda Williams Food Bank presented Dollar Tree staff with certificates as a thank you for their hard work with this food drive.
