13th annual Strides against Breast Cancer Walk
The Biloxi Town Green was pink on Saturday for the Strides against Breast Cancer Walk put on by the American Cancer Society.
Making Strides is one of the largest breast cancer awareness events in the nation. This was the 13th year survivors and supporters alike have come together in Biloxi to raise money and bring awareness. Thousands laced up their tennis shoes.
Many were there in honor of those who have lost the battle or someone currently fighting. For survivors, this walk means much more than just a way to raise awareness. Breast Cancer survivor Brandy Williamson said, “Nobody can get rid of cancer if we don’t do some research. We need to put the money into it in order to get results out of it. So I think it’s wonderful that so many people are willing to donate money and do walks and give their time. It’s like a second birthday, it’s like a rebirth, I don’t really know how to put it in words but it touches me to my core that this many people are so willing to help.”
Making Strides is a national walk put on by the American Cancer Society that more than a million people will participate in.
