10/7 – Rob Knight’s “Midday News” Hurricane Delta Update

Delta will be moving through the southern gulf by late this afternoon/evening. The hurricane should start making its turn by Thursday to head more northward causing conditions to become worse with time mainly during the day Friday. Delta is expected to move inland Friday early/mid afternoon possibly as a major hurricane. Hurricane conditions will remain through early Saturday and slowly improve through the remainder of the day Saturday. Delta is expected to weaken to a tropical storm by late Saturday as it moves through central Mississippi towards the NE.

EFFECTS TO SOUTH MISSISSIPPI:

  • Bands of rain beginning Thursday…more so very early Friday morning – Saturday afternoon
    • Potential for 2-6” of accumulation
    • Minimal flash flooding in poorly drained areas
  • Storm surge should be between 2-5’ above astronomical norms
  • Minor coastal flooding due to the southerly winds…especially Hancock Co
    • A slow rise beginning Thursday midday – Sunday morning
  • Winds occasionally gusting into the 20-35 mph range
