10/03 Ryan’s “Sunny Start” Thursday Morning Forecast

Despite our sunny start, expect thickening clouds and eventually showers later tonight.

Your Thursday will get off to a nice, sunny start, but it won’t last too long as cloud cover and rain moves in quickly later today. We aren’t expecting to see anything serious, but at least a few thunderstorms and upwards of an inch an a half of rainfall along the coast aren’t out of the question. Nothing major, but could lead to some localized, short-term flooding if they linger over the same area for too long.

Otherwise it’ll be a fairly typical South Mississippi early October day! Today’s low of 69 degrees was a little warmer than it should be (66),  today’s high of 87 will be a little warmer than it should be (85), and the dewpoint is still on the muggy side in the upper 60s. All in all, not too bad…but certainly not like fall-like in the slightest. Well see even warmer mornings over the end of the week and the weekend thanks to tropical moisture moving in and steady, insulating cloud cover, though the next few days should be a bit cooler thanks to Friday and Saturday’s expected rainy starts. After that, the cloud cover and a chance of sprinkles will remain for another day, then allow for sunny skies again as drier air filters in for nearly all of next week…which is good news for incoming Cruisers!

Tropics: Kirk became a major hurricane last night, and will continue to strengthen for the next couple of days in the middle of the Atlantic. Tropical Storm Leslie is expected to reach hurricane status in the next few days as well, while our potential disturbance in the Gulf continues to struggle. It’s not likely to become a tropical system at this point.
