1 dead, 2 wounded in shooting at graduation held on Xavier University campus

A fight that began after a high school graduation on the Xavier University campus on Tuesday morning has left a woman dead.

New Orleans police said three people were shot outside the Convocation Center where the Morris Jeff Community School graduation ceremony was held, Nola.com reported.

An older woman attending the graduation was shot, along with two men. The woman later died. The men had non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

A witness told WDSU-TV that the woman was the grandmother of a graduate.

According to police, two women were fighting in the parking lot after after graduation. The fight escalated and at least one person pulled out a weapon and began firing.

Police say there have been people detained in connection with the shooting and several weapons were recovered at the scene.
