1/7 – Rob Knight’s “Cloudy & Breezy” Afternoon Forecast

Surface high pressure will build in through the end of the week bringing dry and well below normal temperatures to the forecast area for Friday and Saturday. Low temperatures will likely drop to near or below freezing Friday night/Saturday morning as winds relax and clear skies remain in place in many places along and north of I-10. Cooler air will also continue to advect into the region on the back of sustained northerly flow.  As a result, temperatures will be a good 10 to 15 degrees below average with highs only rising into the lower 50s this weekend.

Conditions will begin to deteriorate throughout the day on Sunday as an area of low-pressure develops in the NW’tern GOM. Cloud cover should thicken and build down through the day, and expect to see a few showers develop over the Atchafalaya Basin by Sunday afternoon.

Conditions look favorable for a wintry mix of rain, sleet, and snow to impact much of SW Mississippi and south Mississippi.
