08/29 Ryan’s “Wet End to the Week” Friday Forecast

All week has been quite dry, but we're seeing the first showers of our wet end to it moving in.

The week is coming to a wet end after our dry and sunny start which included a tease of lower humidity air. Showers and thunderstorms popped up sporadically yesterday evening as our next frontal system approached, and they’re getting a bit more consistent as the front stalls out overhead. A low will ride the front across the area through the night and into tomorrow, keeping our light-to-moderate shower chances in place, creating a wet start to the high school football season later tonight. Still, thunderstorms will be very few and far between if they manage to pop up at all, so outside of being a bit wet the games should go on without any significant issues.

Today we also remember the lives lost 20 years ago during Hurricane Katrina, a formative event for nearly everyone across South Mississippi. I wouldn’t be were I am without it, as it sparked my scientific interest in weather phenomena…leading to serving South Mississippi as a meteorologist for the last decade. Remember the hard lessons we learned that day, and continue to diligent as we watch the tropics for new developments throughout the rest of the season.
