07/27 Ryan’s “Extreme Heat” Monday Morning Forecast
The coastal areas have been upgraded to an Extreme Heat Watch, with Heat Advisories for the rest of South MS already in place.
We’re no strangers to dangerous heat here in South Mississippi, but the next few days are going to be a little more extreme even by our standards. We actually have an Extreme Heat Watch along the coastline today, meaning we may see heat indices in excess of 110° later this afternoon. I’m fairly confident we’ll reach at least that mark, but it’ll come down to how quickly cloud cover builds in and if we see any afternoon showers nearby. We do have a chance of seeing a few, but only giving a 10% chance you’ll encounter them as they’ll struggle to linger.
For today, expect a high near 98° with a heat index of at least 110°, and light west-southwesterly winds around 10 mph. We’ll cool down to about 80° heading into the night with a few clouds lingering and even lighter west-northwesterly winds.
