Youth Mental Health First Aid classes set for Saturday at Pine Lake Baptist Church

The Mental Health Association of South Mississippi is hosting first aid classes this weekend geared toward youth mental health.

The class is designed to teach parents, family, caregivers, school staff, and others how to help an adolescent who is experiencing mental health and/or addiction challenges or if they are in a crisis.

Participants will learn about risk factors, warning signs, a five-step action plan, and more. MHASM Executive Director Kay Daneault said, “Things like bullying and substance use, those are things that we don’t necessarily remember that young people are going through as well. Statistically, if early prevention is taken, if steps are taken earlier, people can get better much more quickly.”

The class is Saturday, January 21st from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Pine Lake Baptist Church in Vancleave. Lunch will be provided. For more information contact Mental Health Association of South Mississippi at 228-864-6274.
