Young and hungry Biloxi Shuckers eager to get the 2025 season started
The Biloxi Shuckers are set to start their 10th season in franchise history this week when they hit the road and take on the Pensacola Blue Wahoos in a three-game series. Before their trip to Florida, players and coaches spoke to the media as part of the organizations annual media day.
The Shuckers are coming off a year that saw a late playoff birth and are returning maybe more talent than any previous roster the organization has ever had. While it is talented it is young, with the average player being just over 22-years-old. Manager Joe Ayrault says rather than looking at it as a challenge he’s looking at it as a positive.
“I wouldn’t call it a challenge,” manager Joe Ayrault said. “It’s just more of having fun with these guys. The young energy, they bring it every day. They want it and, I mean, our scouts do a great job. Our organization, top to bottom, we are young compared to the league in every league. It’s good to have these guys on our side and we are ready to get to work.”
The infield for the Shuckers will be loaded with talent. Former first round picks Brock Wilken and Eric Brown Jr. will share the left side of the infield, while veteran leaders will lock down the right side. Infield is a position of depth for the Shuckers this year. Eric Brown Jr. says it is something that can benefit them all in the long run.
“Oh dude, heck yeah, you have to think about it because we have the best of the best in this organization in this infield,” infielder Eric Brown Jr. said. “We are practice every day together. So, you know, we are going to constantly be pushing each other and expecting the best out of each other.”
This is a Shuckers roster that has a lot of potential heading into the new season. Something that former Mississippi State Bulldog K.C. Hunt says fans will see play our day-by-day and game-by-game.
“I think just going day-by-day and pitch-by-pitch which is really cliche but that is what my motto is,” KC Hunt said. “We made it to the playoffs last year and winning it would be awesome from a team standpoint. Then going out there and dominating on the mound as a starter.”
The Shuckers start their season on Friday against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos. Their first home game will be on Tuesday, April 8th against the Columbus Clingstones with the first pitch being thrown at 6:06 PM.
