YMCA hosts Annual Humanitarian Charity Banquet
Hundreds gathered this evening for the 12th annual Mississippi Gulf Coast YMCA Humanitarian Charity Banquet at the Beau Rivage.
This year, they presented Singing River Health System’s CEO Lee Bond the 2021 Humanitarian Award for his and Singing River’s dedication to serving those in the community throughout the pandemic.
While the banquet is a time to recognize Goodwill, it is also the YMCA’s biggest fundraiser of the year.
The fundraiser is especially critical this year after the Y had to cancel the event last year due to COVID. YMCA Wellness Director Joey Conwill said, “We don’t turn anybody away at the YMCA for inability to pay. All of our programs whether it’s our child watch before school, after school program, whether it’s our swimming lessons, youth sports, membership to the Y– we don’t turn anybody away. So, this allows us to fund the families of the Mississippi Gulf Coast to do our programs at the YMCA.”
Each year, the Y gives out more than $100,000 to help underwrite Y memberships.
