YMCA hosts 13th annual John R. Blossman Banquet
The Mississippi Gulf Coast YMCA held its 13th annual John R. Blossman YMCA Humanitarian Award and Charity Banquet.
The event, held at the Beau Rivage Casino and Resort Convention Center, gives the YMCA an opportunity to showcase the hard work done throughout the year and show off the work they have accomplished through its programs across the Coast.
This year, the Humanitarian Award was given to Ray Wesson, Jr.
The Wesson family has been a part of the YMCA for years with Ray Wesson’s father being a founding member of the organization.
Wesson Jr. has been an integral part of the team for years and is known for his work within the community. YMCA Board of Directors Member Scott Lemon said, “I’ve known him all my life. I knew his parents. I know his kids, and it’s a great way to celebrate Ray and celebrate what the YMCA has to offer. It’s about recognizing all the programs that the Y touches lives on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The swim lessons, the senior programs, the fitness programs, the child care, all the Parkinson’s and type programs like that.”
Most of the money earned from this fundraiser is used to fund the ‘Open Doors Scholarship Program’ which gives away more than $125,000 each year.
