WXXV’s Marco Bitonel LIVE on how South Mississippi is helping those affected by Helene

Several organizations across South Mississippi mobilized to provide relief for areas affected by Hurricane Helene.

Early on Thursday morning, Mississippi Power sent a storm team of over 260 linemen and technicians to Georgia to help with power recovery efforts.

Both the Mississippi State Task Force as well as the Coast Guard Station at Pascagoula were deployed to Florida to assist in recovery efforts and water rescues.

Two dozen American Red Cross volunteers from Mississippi and Alabama are are in areas affected by Helene. Some of them are in shelters in Georgia and Florida providing assistance while others are in an evacuation shelter in Dothan, Alabama.

WXXV News 25’s Marco Bitonel was live and had the latest on how South Mississippians were doing their part in Helene relief efforts.
