WXXV Student Athlete of the Week: Hancock High Tri-Sport Athlete Cambria Necaise

This week’s Student Athlete of the Week is Cambria Necaise, a tri-sport athlete for the Hancock High Lady Hawks, excelling in all three sports and she’s no stranger to the big stages either.

She’s also competing for a state championship this week.

“Seasons never end and I’ve never had a break. Every holiday, Christmas break, Thanksgiving break, I’m always here and have just never had a break,” said senior Cambria Necaise. “As soon as softball ends, we start with summer basketball then summer volleyball and then it starts the season. It’s a lot.”

If you can’t tell by the insane schedule, this week’s student athlete of the week Cambria Necaise is a tri-sport athlete at Hancock High School playing volleyball, basketball, and softball.

Sports have been a constant in her life ever since she first picked up a t-ball bat as a kid, but one thing that hasn’t remained the same is her position on the back-to-back undefeated district volleyball team, where she transitioned from front row to the back her senior season. “It was a weird decision at first because I’ve always been an outside hitter and transitioning to libero was different but it was what was best for the team. We needed somebody back there who can keep those balls up and I kind of like it now,” said Necaise. “It’s growing on me for sure and I compete with myself. I just have to be better than I was in the game before.”

One person that told Necaise she can play the position well and ultimately accomplish anything she sets her mind is to her brother and she says he is who inspires her throughout her entire sports journey. “My brother. He’s my number one fan for sure,” Necaise said. “None of this would be possible without him saying, ‘You can do it.'”

Necaise truly excels at everything she does, whether it’s on a court or a softball field. It goes without say thing she will leave her mark with the Navy and Red. “I just want to leave a legacy here. To say that I’ve played three sports and to accomplish what I have accomplished,” Necaise said. “I’ve made it to three state championships now and a final four game. It means a lot and it’s something big that I take home, but not winning them is rough. I just want to get over the hump.”

Last season, Necaise and all three of her sports teams fell just short in state title games and she craves nothing more than finally securing a ring.

This week, the Lady Hawk volleyball team has the opportunity to do just that as they play Lake Cormarant for the state championship on Thursday. “I need to get this ring. I have to,” Necaise said with a smile. “I just really want to show my younger girls that it’s really nothing. Yes, we played in this gym last year, so last year was just like ‘Okay, we made it to state,’ but this year it’s ours. We’re coming for it for sure.”

Volleyball ring or not, Necaise will be dribbling down basketball courts in no time and soon after that, lacing up her softball cleats. Although it sounds exhausting, she encourages young athletes to do the same exact thing. “Do it all,” Necaise said. “Do it while you can for sure. It’s coming to an end and I feel it already and if I could redo it I would 100%.”
