WXXV and Domino’s Teacher of the Month

A Gulfport kindergarten teacher is the winner of the WXXV and Domino’s Pizza Teacher of the Month contest.
Sherry Hartwick from Christian Collegiate Academy in Gulfport is legally blind but that doesn’t stop the magic that can be seen going on inside her classroom. Sherry teaches her kindergarten class through songs and interactive activities. The parent who nominated her says she goes above and beyond for every student.
News 25 surprised Sherry in the hall today. She tells us a few things she loves about being a teacher. “I absolutely love to see where they come from the beginning of the year to the end of the year. I also love to see when they get something and they say ‘Ms. Hartwick! Look, what I did.’ Of course, I love to instill pride in my students so when they do something I make just the biggest deal.”
Brittany Buchanan was the parent who nominated Hartwick for Teacher of the Month. She said, “My daughter, she’s amazed by her. She cries to go to school on Saturday and before she didn’t even want to go to school.”
